A Financial Overview Window


Hello fellow airline directors! First off, t has been a while - in fact, over a year - and that needs an explanation and a big apology. Last year, early 2023, we got plagued by a strong inflation. Costs of everything were rising significantly, while the income of TAP had taken a turn downwards. I had to take on a job to counter this. I found a job for just a couple of days a week, which I thought was very cool as it would leave me time for TAP. I had to learn a number of new programming languages for it however. I thought, 1 month full time for this job and then 50/50 for TAP. That would work out nicely... However, it didn't. As we all noticed. 1 month became 6 weeks, 2 months... The post kept moving. New stuff to learn kept coming up and overtime was the norm.

The good news is that I now do have a 50/50 balance working. I'm back and re-energized to get things going again. In fact, I have been for a couple of months now. But I decided I couldn't return to the community empty handed. Arguably that moved the post even further, but I do like the fact that I do have something to show for now rather than just empty words and an apology.

Financial Window

Previously we had completed the 'full play cycle'. Which meant you can launch the game and actually play it setting up your networkmaking a profit to expand further. The logical next step is to give a better insight in what is happening to your airline. Which this update will bring to you in the form of a financial overview.

In this window you are presented with a table showing your bookkeeping on a yearly, quarterly or monthly basis. If you click on an item in the table the corresponding data is added to the graph below.

What's Next

There's three things I want to implement right now. I am undecided yet which ones will make it to the next release:

  • Saving and loading. Although the game needs some extra features to be more interesting, this would let you actually play and come back to the game. Implementing saving/loading now does mean it will break saves a number of times the next couple of months as things are still changing a lot behind the scenes.
  • A new cost: employees. This should make the game a little bit more interesting and challenging.
  • Some cleaning up and an overall UX improvement of already existing features.
